Deciduous - lance-shaped, shallowly scalloped, bright-green leaves to 12cm (5in) long.

Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - vigorous, spreading, forming thickets. Produces showy, silvery grey male catkins to 4cm (1½in) long with golden anthers.

Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F) -
