Available late spring to early summer 2021 - Spring according to the Met Office is defined as March 1st - May 31st. Therefore late spring is mid-April onwards. This is not a guaranteed date but an estimate and subject to availability.

  • Evergreen - woolly, aromatic leaves to 8cm (3in) long
  • Blue - violet-blue
  • Height - to 80cm (32in)
  • Spread - 1m (39in)
  • Herb - shrubby, upright.
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
  • Full sun
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - the popular culinary herb.
  • Medicinal properties - S. officinalis, common sage, is widely used for dietary problems, excessive perspiration and infusions for colds. Contains thujone, a strong antiseptic and antibacterial phenolic acids. Wildlife plant - insects.
  • Pests & Diseases - slugs, snails on young growth.
  • Place of origin - Mediterranean, northern Africa.
  • Resistant to honey fungus - These plants have little or few problems with honey fungus.
