  • Evergreen - elliptic-oblong, grey-green leaves to 7cm (3in) long, white-woolly beneath.
  • Red
  • Height - 3m (10ft)
  • Spread - 2.5m (8ft)
  • Fruit - Plants which produce an edible or ornamental fruit - large, round to oval fruit to 8ozs.
  • Tall Shrub - upright, tree-like. Produces flowers 4cm (1½in) across with long, red stamens.
  • Zero Rated Item - No VAT on this plant
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
  • Full sun - sheltered spot.
  • Additional Features - Good to know - self-fertile but produces heavier fruiting when cross-pollinated. For a better chance of fruit, where temperatures fall below 5°C (41°F), grow in cool greeenhouse or conservatory.
  • Pests & Diseases - none.
  • Place of origin - a New Zealand selection from an Australian seedling.
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter
