  • Deciduous - heart-shaped, toothed, dark-green leaves to 8cm (3in) long, blue-green and smooth beneath except for tufts of hair in the axils. Leaves turn yellow in autumn.
  • Yellow - pale-yellow.
  • Height - 25m(82ft)
  • Spread - 15m (49ft)
  • Tree - produces clusters of up to 10 flowers 2cm (¾in) across on upright stalks with a leaf-like bract at the base.
  • Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)
  • Full sun - avoid very dry conditions and protect from strong winds

  • Additional Features - Good to know - - excellent for carving as it does not warp. Produces a valuable honey.
  • Medicinal properties - its flowers are sold in health shops. Lime flower tea, drunk after dinner, aids digestion. Its soothing properties alleviate hysteria, nervous vomiting or palpitation.
  • Pests & Diseases - gall mites on leaves, scale insects on bark, aphids (producing sticky honeydew), honey fungus, Phytophthora root rot.
