VITIS coignetiae 'Claret Cloak'
Commonly known as Crimson climber
Large deeply cut, rounded leaves, purple when new and colouring red-orange in autumn
Deciduous - leaves are 3- to 5-lobed, 15-20cm (6-8in) across
Height - to 15m (50ft)
Climber - Some of these climbing plants will need trellis or wire supports if grown on walls or fences. Other grow aerial roots and are self-clinging - woody, tendril climber. Produces inconspicuous flowers, hidden by the leaves, followed by bunches of unpalatable grapes 1cm (½in) across
Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
