Commonly known as Silky wisteria

(syn. venusta) - a rare Japanese species with silky young foliage and unusually large cream flowers on short racemes. Mid season flowering. An excellent container plant

Available late spring to early summer 2021 - Spring according to the Met Office is defined as March 1st - May 31st. Therefore late spring is mid-April onwards. This is not a guaranteed date but an estimate and subject to availability.

  • Deciduous - pinnate, softly hairy leaves to 35cm (14in) long composed of 9-13 ovate to lance-shaped leaflets.
  • Cream
  • Height - 9m (28ft) or more.
  • Climber - Some of these climbing plants will need trellis or wire supports if grown on walls or fences. Other grow aerial roots and are self-clinging - twining climber. Produces pea-like flowers in racemes to 15cm (6in) long followed by bean-like, velvety green seed pods to 20cm (8in) long.
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
  • Full sun
  • Partial shade
  • Harmful if eaten - These will give you an upset tummy, so please don't eat any of these.
