OSMANTHUS armatus

Commonly known as Sweet olive

An autumn flowering variety with a sweet scent. Long oblong leaves are very distinct with spiny teeth on the edges

 

  • Evergreen - oblong-lance-shaped, leathery leaves to 15cm (6in) long.
  • Cream - creamy-white.
  • Height - 2.5-5m (8-16ft)
  • Spread - 4m (13ft)
  • Tall Shrub - dense, rounded shrub. Produces tubular flowers with spreading lobes to 5mm (¼in) across in axillary clusters followed by violet coloured fruit to 2cm (¾in) long..
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)

  • Pruning group - Pruning group 6
    Suitable for: Evergreen shrubs or climbers that need little to no pruning.
    Action: Trim back shoots that spoil symmetry and to fit available space.
    When: Annually after flowering if on previous year's growth, or in later Winter or Spring if flowering on current year's growth, or as requires.
