Commonly known as Southern live oak
Tall growing species with longitudinally furrowed bark. It keeps its leaves throughout the winter dropping them only when the new growth emerges
Semi-evergreen - Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well. - stiff, leathery leaves 2-15cm (¾-6in) long, glossy, dark-green above, pale grey bemeath.
Height - 20m (70ft)
Spread - 10m (30ft)
Tree - shrubby to large, spreading tree. Lower limbs often grow towards the ground before curving up again. Small, tapered acorns, black or tan coloured.
Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
