    Commonly known as Daimio oak, Daimyo oak

    A rare tree with peculiar very large ovate leaves

      Aphids, gall wasps, oak wilt, honey fungus, powdery mildew, bracket fungi.

      Eastern Asia.

      Shallowly lobed to wavy-margined, dark-green leaves to 30cm (12in) or more long.

      Rugged, spreading, stoutly-branched tree. Fissured, brown bark, splitting into scaly grey plates. Produces ovoid to almost spherical, solitary acorns.

      Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
      Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
      When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
