CYCAS
A cycad. A palm-like, evergreen, cone-bearing (male) plant. Dioecious, so males and females exist as separate plants.
Genus of about 15 species of cycads found mainly on dry, stony slopes and in semi-desert and dry open woodland from Madagascar to southern and southeastern Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
C. revoluta is one of the most widely cultivated cycads and can be grown outside in warm-temperate climates. The pith is used for the production of sago undergoing rigorous washing to remove natural toxins.
