FATSIA japonica 'Spider's Web'
Commonly known as False castor oil plant, Japanese figleaf palm
Slow growing form with the leaves heavily speckled with white variegation sometimes spreading over a whole leaf

Evergreen - thick stems bearing hairless, 7-11-lobed, usually toothed leaves 15-40cm (6-16in) long

Tall Shrub - rounded shrub. Produces 5-petalled flowers 6mm (¼in) across in branching, long-stalked umbels 2.5-4cm (1-1½in) across forming bunches. Small, spherical, black fruit.

Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)

Greenhouse or conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter - under glass use loam-based compost (JI No. 3)
