  • Evergreen - toothed leaves which become bigger and more round with age
  • White
  • Height - 5m (16ft) or more
  • Spread - 1.5-2m (4-6½ft)
  • Tree - small, narrow tree or tall shrub. Produces 5-petalled flowers with prominent stamens
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
  • Against a wall
  • Full sun - shelter from cold, drying winds
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - wildlife plant - bees, butterflies
  • Pests & Diseases - coral spot particularly in damp, shady sites
  • Place of origin - garden origin. A cultivar from Borde Hill, Sussex
  • Resistant to honey fungus - These plants have little or few problems with honey fungus.

  • Hardiness - Frost hardy (down to -5) -
  • Pruning group - Pruning group 1
    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
