Commonly known as False castor oil plant, Japanese fig leaf palm

Longer stalked, less glossy leaves than F. japonica. A recently introduced Taiwanese species which is frost hardy to -10° and has made a very attractive free standing shrub here

    Young branches, leaves and inflorescence initially brown-hairy, later smooth. Flowers in the form of rounded clusters to 2.5cm (1in) of about 20 appear in early winter followed by spherical, purplish fruits in spring

    Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
