My Burncoose




6th January 2021. In line with the current government lockdown rules, Burncoose Nurseries is closed to visitors. However at present we are able to offer click and collect to local customers. This will be weekdays only, not weekends. Mail order is continuing as normal. However please allow extra time for the couriers to deliver, once despatched from us. Sorry to say that some depots are experiencing high volumes of traffic, also staff shortages.

  • Evergreen - opposite, linear-lance-shaped to ovate-lance-shaped leaves to 5cm (2in) long, often red-hairy beneath
  • Semi-evergreen - Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well.
  • Orange - deep orange
  • Height - to 50cm (20in)
  • Spread - 1.5m (5ft)
  • Dwarf shrub - Typically only grows to a maximum of one or two feet in height but there will be some exceptions. - subshrubby perennial usually grown as an annual. Softly hairy young shoots. Produces clusters of 10-35 slipper-like flowers to 2.5cm (1in) long
  • Tender - cool or frost free greenhouse - Tolerant of low temperatures, but not surviving being frozen. Except in frost-free inner-city areas or coastal extremities requires glasshouse conditions. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 1°C (34°F)

These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter - under glass use loam-based compost (JI No.2) in bright, filtered light with good ventilation
