Genus of about 70 species of evergreen shrubs and trees from rocky hills and woodland in Europs, Asia, Africa and Central America.

Accepted as the primary shrub for hedging and topiary.

  • Evergreen - leaves are more rounded than common box and closer together on the twig.
  • Height - 1m (3ft)
  • Spread - 1.5m (5ft)
  • Dwarf shrub - Typically only grows to a maximum of one or two feet in height but there will be some exceptions. - compact and slow-growing.
