  • Evergreen - thick, alternate, narrowly oblong leaves 15-30cm (6-12in) long with shallow, irregular teeth mature to deep or grey-green
  • Red - red-pink
  • Yellow
  • Height - 5-15m (16-49ft)
  • Spread - 5-10m (16-33ft)
  • Tall Shrub - or small tree. Erect, then spreading, bushy shrub or tree with very downy young stems. Produces short, cylindrical flower heads 10-15cm (4-6in) long
  • Heated greenhouse - warm temperate - Can be grown outside in summer. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 5°C (41°F) - use equal parts loam-based compost (JI No.1), grit and peat substitute in full light
  • Full sun
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - flower colour varies from red, ageing to yellow, to pink or bronze
  • Pests & Diseases - Phytophthora root rot. Plants will become chlorotic if soil contains too much phosphate or lime
  • Place of origin - Australia (Western Australia)
  • Resistant to honey fungus - These plants have little or few problems with honey fungus.
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Coastal / windswept - - suitable for coastal areas
  • Hardiness - Tender (greenhouse & conservatory) -
  • Pruning group - Pruning group 1
    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
