  • Evergreen - alternate, oblong, toothed leaves 8-15cm (3-6in) long, downy and light red or reddish brown at first, then leathery, smooth and semi-glossy, deep green
  • Yellow - yellow-green
  • Height - 3-20m (10-66ft)
  • Spread - 2-8m (6½-26ft)
  • Tall Shrub - erect, then spreading, shrub or tree. Produces cylindrical flower heads 9-15cm (3½-6in) long
  • Tender - cool or frost free greenhouse - Tolerant of low temperatures, but not surviving being frozen. Except in frost-free inner-city areas or coastal extremities requires glasshouse conditions. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 1°C (34°F)
  • Will grow outside in milder locations - This could include plants which would survive happily in a greenhouse or conservatory if not in a mild location. If you have a sheltered spot in your garden then it may do well here.

  • Additional Features - Pests & Diseases - - Phytophthora root rot. Plants will become chlorotic if soil contains too much phosphate or lime
  • Place of origin - Australia (New South Wales, Victoria)
  • Resistant to honey fungus - These plants have little or few problems with honey fungus.
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Coastal / windswept - - suitable for coastal areas
  • Hardiness - Frost hardy (down to -5) -
  • Half hardy (down to 0)
  • Pruning group - Pruning group 1
    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
