HYDRANGEA paniculata 'Skyfall'

Commonly known as Hortensia

Large conical white flower clusters becoming pink-flushed as they age. Comparatively large individual florets

 

  • Deciduous
  • Height - 1.2m (4ft)
  • Spread - 70cm (28in)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - vigorous, upright shrub with very large flowerheads which resemble hyacinths
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
  • Full sun - requires a sheltered site
  • Partial shade
  • Harmful if eaten - These will give you an upset tummy, so please don't eat any of these.
  • May cause skin allergy or irritant - Having skin or eye contact with these plants could result in an allergic reaction, burning or rash.
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - larger flowerheads are produced if previous season's shoots are cut back to within a few buds of the woody framework in spring
  • Pests & Diseases - red spider mites, scale insects, vine weevils, capsid bugs, grey mould (Botrytis), hydrangea virus, powdery mildew, leaf spot, honey fungus

    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
