  • Deciduous - elliptic-oblong, minutely toothed, glossy, leaves to 10cm (4in), or more, long turning yellow and gold in autumn
  • Shades of pink - All shades of pink through to Carmine (red) - pale pink
  • Height - 8m (26ft)
  • Spread - 6m (20ft)
  • Tree - graceful, spreading tree. Produces flowers along the undersides of the branches followed by small greyish green fruits after a warm summer.
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
  • Full sun - shelter from cold, dry winds
  • Partial shade
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - can be pruned after flowering to restrict its size. Leaves are particularly lustrous as they emerge
  • Ornamental bark - on older branches the bark splits to reveal orange inner bark providing winter interest
  • Pests & Diseases - trouble free
  • Place of origin - China, Korea, Japan. Garden origin
  • Resistant to honey fungus - These plants have little or few problems with honey fungus.
  • Flower Shape - Bell/Lantern - - bell-shaped 1.5cm (½in), or more, long with yellow stamens

    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
