  • Deciduous - oval, unequally-toothed mid-green leaves 7-12cm (3-5in) turning yellow to orange in autumn.
  • Height - 25m (80ft)
  • Spread - 20m (70ft)
  • Tree - smooth, fluted grey bark. Catkins in spring; male, yellow to 3cm (1in) long, female, greenish, to 12cm (5in) long.
  • Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)
  • Full sun

  • Additional Features - Good to know - - our native hornbeam. Wildlife plant - moth larvae, birds. Makes excellent hedge, retaining leaves when trimmed.
