    Commonly known as Kingcup, Marsh marigold

    Very variable and some name-confusion in this member of the buttercup family but one of the golden harbingers of spring. Flowers again in autumn sometimes.

    UK native of ditches, wet meadows and shady places.

    Hang it upside-down in a doorway in May to banish witches.

    Genus of about 10 species of rhizomatous, marshland or marginal aquatic perennials and herbaceous, moisture-loving perennials, widespread in temperate and cold regions of the northern hemisphere.
