Commonly known as Japanese quince, Japonica, Ornamental quince
These Flowering quince produce fruit which is palatable when cooked like the Common quince Cydonia oblonga. Flowering quince fruit contains much more pectin; more than lemons.
Shrubs can be grown as a spiny barrier and maintained as bonsai.
Genus of 3 species of deciduous, often spiny, shrubs, one sometimes a small tree, from mountain woodlands in China and Japan.
Medium shrub Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height
Grown for their early, 5-petalled, cup-shaped flowers. and ornamental fruit (palatable when cooked).
For best blooms and fruit grow in sun.
Good to know - C. japonica makes a good low hedge. All look good trained against a wall. Good bee plants providing early nectar and pollen.Notably resistant to honey fungus.
