6th January 2021. In line with the current government lockdown rules, Burncoose Nurseries is closed to visitors. However at present we are able to offer click and collect to local customers. This will be weekdays only, not weekends. Mail order is continuing as normal. However please allow extra time for the couriers to deliver, once despatched from us. Sorry to say that some depots are experiencing high volumes of traffic, also staff shortages.

Commonly known as Cape jasmine

(syn. Floribunda) - a compact bush for the greenhouse with creamy-white heavily scented camellia-like flowers and handsome glossy foliage

  • Evergreen - elliptic or lance-shaped leaves 10cm (4in) or more long.
  • White - creamy white
  • Height - 2m (6½ft)
  • Spread - 2m (6½ft)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - bushy shrub. 5- to 12-lobed flowers. Usually grown as one of the double variants.
  • Heated greenhouse - warm temperate - Can be grown outside in summer. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 5°C (41°F)
  • Partial shade - light or dappled shade
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - syn. G. augusta
  • Pests & Diseases - whiteflies, mealybug, grey mould(Botrytis).
  • Place of origin - China, Taiwan, Japan.
  • Flower Shape - Formal double - Multi rows of petals in a symmetrical shape, no stamen showing
  • Saucer-shaped - to 8cm (3in) across
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter - under glass use ericaceous compost in full light. Keep barely moist in winter. Might require restrictive pruning

    Suitable for: Evergreen shrubs or climbers that need little to no pruning.
    Action: Trim back shoots that spoil symmetry and to fit available space.
    When: Annually after flowering if on previous year's growth, or in later Winter or Spring if flowering on current year's growth, or as requires.
