  • Deciduous - pinnate or 2-pinnate mid to bright-green leaves 30-60cm (12-24in) long with many sharply-toothed leaflets.
  • Purple - Shades of purple/mauve/lilac/violet - lilac
  • Height - 10-15m (33-49ft)
  • Spread - 5-8m (16-26ft)
  • Tree - fast-growing, many-branched, spreading tree with fissured grey bark. Flowers are followed by spherical or ovoid yellow fruit 1cm (½in) long.
  • Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)
