    glossy or matt, dark-green leaves 2-3cm (¾-1¼in) long are 2-ranked and parted either side of the shoots.

    The highly modified seed cone consists of a single green seed surrrounded by a juicy, sweet, usually red, aril 1cm (½in) across.
