WATSONIA

Commonly known as Bugle lily

Genus of 51 species of cormous perennials, usually found on rocky or grassy slopes and plateaux in South Africa and Madagascar.

  • Herbaceous - Early in the year, typically January till end of March, herbaceous plants might be supplied in 9cm pots to ensure timely despatch. - cormous perennials with erect, usually sword-shaped basal leaves and showy spikes of tubular red, orange, pink or white flowers.
  • Will grow outside in milder locations - This could include plants which would survive happily in a greenhouse or conservatory if not in a mild location. If you have a sheltered spot in your garden then it may do well here. - under glass use loam-based compost with added sharp sand and leaf mould.
  • Full sun
  • Additional Features - Good to know - suitable for areas with little or no frost. A species displaced in commerce by gladiolus.
