Interesting Plants on the Burncoose Nurseries Stand at Chelsea 2019

The theme of our stand this year is “Plants from People’s Past”. The idea is that people suffering from dementia can be stimulated by the scents and colours from both well-known or more traditional garden plants as well as newer introductions to revive old memories from the forgotten past.

EUPHORBIA stygiana

this is a rare species of euphorbia which is endangered in the wild in the Azores and has seldom ever been seen before in flower at Chelsea. The flower heads are honey scented and this species is an excellent architectural shrub growing up to 5ft in height. It requires a hot dry location.

DIPELTA yunnanensis

this is a rare Chinese shrub seldom seen in flower at Chelsea except in this very early flowering year. The flowers resemble those of a Weigelia and the creamy white trumpets are filled with an orange blotch. After flowering the shrub produces clusters of attractive winged fruits.

STYRAX obassia

Appears in full flower on our Chelsea stand for the first time. This species grows into a small tree and is best grown on a bank where you can peer up at the large ovate leaves and terminal racemes of fragrant bell shaped white flowers.

GREVILLEA ‘Bronze Rambler’

this is a totally hardy spreading groundcover grevillea suitable for growing on a hot dry bank. The spikes of deep purple-red flowers appear right through the year and are nicely offset by the bronze coloured new growth.

Dianthus ‘Memories’

has large double pure white flowers in profusion. It is a variety with an extremely strong scent and will develop quickly into clumps in a border or in containers.
Available Autumn £4.75 each       3 for £12.00 or 10 for £35.00
