This May, The Great Gardens of Cornwall join together to offer a programme of exciting and informative events as part of the international Chelsea Fringe Festival; an alternative garden festival celebrating community growing initiatives, outdoor performance, botanical art, walks, talks and events during two weeks from 20th May- 4th June 2017.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah, Caerhays, Tremenheere, Tregrehan and The Eden Project will be offering a series of programmes for all enthusiasts throughout the two-week long festival, including the opportunity to ‘Ask a Gardener’, buy something unique at a rare plant fair, a music festival as well as enjoying art in the garden!.
Ever wondered what it takes to grow pineapples in the UK? Or how to form your own apple arch? Or maybe even wanted to know how to string an onion? The Lost Gardens are offering a unique opportunity for all gardening enthusiasts and budding novices, to join them for a series of fun and informal question and answer sessions with some of Heligan’s finest gardeners and Estate team.
From 29th June, Trebah Gardens will host a week of spectacular live music set within the sub-tropical paradise, right on the stunning south Cornwall coast. Jazz, pop, gospel, folk, choir, swing, silver band, dance, wild singing, boogie woogie; there will be something for everyone during this celebration.
Tregrehan based in mid-Cornwall, has been home to the Carlyon family since 1565 and as part of the Chelsea Fringe Festival, are offering a fantastic one day only opportunity to visit the gardens and buy from a huge range of plants from carefully selected Rare Plant Nurseries.
Cornwall-based artist Nicola Bealing will unveil a solo exhibition of recent paintings and monoprints at the new Tremenheere Gallery. Forms of plant life are often evident in Bealing's dark narrative paintings. The exhibition entitled ‘Bad Gardening’, will allow various off-kilter manifestations of horticulture to take centre stage.
Throughout the two week celebration, Caerhays Castle Gardens will be displaying a personal photographic exhibition ‘Caerhays Through the Ages’ depicting Caerhays and the Williams family through the ages. This private exhibition will be displayed in the magnificent castle and can be seen by booking one of their daily guided tours.
Immerse your senses and take a special tour of Eden’s plants with your own personal guide, as you explore the largest Rainforest in captivity. Stroll through the jungle of Malaysia, West Africa and South America and experience sights, scents and stories from the Mediterranean, South Africa and Western Australia.
