Styrax - Hardy Flowering 'Snowbell Trees'
Thursday 14th June 2018
Lecture by Charles Williams at Caerhays Castle
After the spectacular spring floral displays there is a temptation to assume that there is ‘nothing much’ to see in Cornish woodland gardens in summer. The
styrax family extends the flowering season.
Caerhays now has a collection of nearly 30 species/cultivars of styrax, flowering June. Some are very new to UK cultivation.
The talk will examine the origins/history of the Caerhays collection as well
as advise on care/propagation. The garden tour will visit each species
growing/flowering in the garden including rare Styrax odoratissimus and Styrax serrulatus. Attendees will be invited to return in the autumn to collect their own seeds.
Coffee/tea served in the Georgian Hall from 9.30am. Bring appropriate clothing and footwear for garden tour.
Lecture starts – 10am prompt
Finish approx. – 1pm
