Driving along Britain’s new roads and extended motorways this summer it has been striking how many newly planted native trees have died in the recent droughts. This has also been apparent in some of our spring plantings in Burncoose gardens which have also succumbed to drought where watering has been impossible.
AUTUMN IS NATURE’S NATURAL TIME FOR PLANTING!
Faced with climate change in the form of dry summers, it is far better to plant trees and shrubs where they have an extra 4-5 months to get their roots out into the surrounding soil. By the time spring comes they can make stable new growth and become far more resistant to hot summers without too much additional watering.
We believe that our half standard sized ornamental trees (5-6 feet tall in 10 or 12 litre pots) are all priced well below those of our competitors at present. Most of our ready to plant ornamental trees are still priced at £75.00 each.
As autumn colour appears across the country here are just a few suggestions for good spring flowering trees to get into the ground NOW.
