The landscaping of the gardens around The Vean, at Caerhays Castle.
This Georgian Rectory was converted in 2007 into Five Star accommodation with 8 double en suite bedrooms as a private hotel for weddings, corporate events and shooting parties. The garden designed by Burncoose, had to match both the quality of the setting and be in keeping with the history of the house which overlooks Caerhays Castle Gardens. We show here a sequence of how the shrub borders and more formal flower and herb gardens nearer the house have grown and matured over the first 3 years. Of particular note is how Rubus tricolor has proved such a success in securing covering and eliminating all weed growth from the steep bank below the house. A cold garden initially is now creating its own microclimate in which the plants are starting to thrive. Rabbits and pheasants scratching the borders have been a major problem.
