Genus of 2 or 3 species of evergreen shrubs occuring on dry upland slopes, in scrub and open woodland in subtropical South America.
Salt and drought tolerant, A. sellowiana makes an unusual hedge in mild coastal sites. Egg-sized fruit is possible from a cool greenhouse in a long, hot summer. Requires 50 hours of chilling to initiate fruiting.
