MACHILUS

Genus of about 150 species of medium-sized evergreen trees found in tropical and warm temperate regions of South and Central America, Mexico, southeastern USA, Macaronesia and southeastern Asia.

Includes the avocado, Persea americana.

They are grown for their ornamental foliage and fruits.
