Genus of about 50 species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees. They occur in deciduous woodland, often near rivers, in warm-temperate and tropical regions from Asia to Australia.
The flowers, which are attractive to insects, have characteristic crinkled petals.
Deciduous - and evergreen shrubs and trees
Will grow outside in milder locations - This could include plants which would survive happily in a greenhouse or conservatory if not in a mild location. If you have a sheltered spot in your garden then it may do well here. - if growing in greenhouse use loam based compost. Allow full light and plenty of air.
Additional Features - Good to know - grown for their conical, brightly-coloured panicles of flowers and their often peeling bark.
