    LYCHNIS

    Commonly known as Campion, Catchfly

Genus of 15-20 species of biennials and perennials found in sites ranging from damp meadows and woodland to alpine habitats in northern temperate and arctic regions.

The native ragged robin, L. flos-cuculi is a pretty plant of marshes and woodland. It is a valuable wildlife plant attracting bees and butterflies.

Many ideas about the name's origin. Possibly from a simple garment from medieval times.
