    PITTOSPORUM

    Commonly known as Kohuhu, Parchment bark

    Hardy in all but the coldest areas. All flower APR-JUL

    OFTEN sweetly night-scented and always sticky-seeded mainly evergreen shrubs and trees found in wideranging habitats in Australasia, southern Africa, southern and eastern Asia and the Pacific islands. It is thought that its origin was the supercontinent Gondwana. Genus of about 200 species.

    • Tall Shrub
      Dark-stemmed, bushy shrub, erect and fast-growing when young, slower-growing with age. Produces flowers in small, few-flowered axillary clusters followed by grey-black seed capsules

      Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
      Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
      When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.

      Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
