Genus of about 600 species of evergreen perennials, shrubs and subshrubs from a wide range of habitats in tropical and subtropical regions.
Evergreen - perennials, shrubs and subshrubs.
Additional Features - Good to know - syn. Libonia. Grown for the tubular flowers. Tip prune young plants to encourage bushiness. Plants under glass require hard restrictive pruning in late winter or early spring.
Pests & Diseases - under glass, red spider mites, whiteflies.
Place of origin - temperate North America, tropical and subtropical regions worldwide.
Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter - loam-based compost and bright, filtered light. Keep draught-free.
Soil Conditions - Fertile moist well-drained soil
