  • Evergreen - oblong, leathery leaves, 2.5-6cm (1-2½in) long, have rolled margins and are deep green above, white- to brown-felted beneath

  • Tall Shrub - erect and bushy shrub or small tree. Produces nodding, flowers singly or in small, axillary clusters followed by dark red seed capsules 1cm (½in) or more across
  • Tender - cool or frost free greenhouse - Tolerant of low temperatures, but not surviving being frozen. Except in frost-free inner-city areas or coastal extremities requires glasshouse conditions. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 1°C (34°F) - use loam-based compost (JI No. 3 ) in full light
  • Will grow outside in milder locations - This could include plants which would survive happily in a greenhouse or conservatory if not in a mild location. If you have a sheltered spot in your garden then it may do well here.
