    Commonly known as Deal pine, Weymouth pine

    Cracked black bark in maturity

      Named after George Waymouth, Devon explorer, early 1600s

      Slender, grey-green leaves, carried in fives, are 8-14cm (3-5½in) long

      Cylindrical, tapered, female cones are 8-15cm (3-6in) long, green ripening to brown
    • Tree
      Upswept branches when young. Smooth grey bark turning black with age. Slender, olive-brown shoots with ovoid-oblong buds.

      Hardy in the severest continental climates including exposed upland locations in the UK. Plant can withstand temperatures < -20 (-4°F)
