  • Deciduous - 5- or 7-palmate leaves, composed of slender, narrowly elliptic, pointed, entire or slightly toothed leaflets to 10cm (4in), or more, long.
  • Blue - violet
  • Height - 2m (6½ft)
  • Spread - 2m (6½ft)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - open, spreading habit. Produces flowers in slender, upright, terminal panicles 13-18cm (5-7in) long.
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
  • Full sun - shelter from cold drying winds in frosty areas
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - grows taller in ideal conditions.
  • Medicinal properties - powdered seeds are said to dampen sexual urges. The plant name arose from its reputation in securing chastity in Greek women. However clinical studies have shown its beneficial effects in the management of Premenstrual Stress Syndrome - PMS and infertility
