Perhaps the most striking and unusual of all hornbeams which is a serious 'must have' for any collector. Bronze young leaves and long clusters of fruits with toothed bracts

    Large, narrowly ovate to elliptic, double-toothed, mid-green, thin leaves 6-25cm (2½-10in) long with deeply impressed veins.

  • Tall Shrub
    Usually remains as a large, multistemmed shrub. Makes a tree in warm and humid conditions. Produces male catkins to 6cm(2½in) long and females to 50cm (20in) long with papery bracts.

    Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)
