Our excellent propagation department have spent the last 3 years growing a good crop of Embothrium coccineum from seed. This is the first time for many years that we have been able to produce large quantities of this iconic Chilean plant which is always a key feature of our RHS Chelsea Flower Show stands.

Embothriums are very difficult to grow from cuttings or root suckers, and seed is the only real solution. The plants can be difficult to get established and some losses must be expected. Although flowering best in a site with full sun for at least part of the day, they resent high temperatures at the roots. Naturally occurring on near sterile volcanic soils, they detest inorganic fertilisers, particularly phosphates. They grow best in locations with poor soils in a situation where other choice plants might not thrive.

Burncoose are now able to offer 4-6 inches tall Embothrium coccineum plants in 1 litre pots at a price of £25.00 each instead of £30.00 each, please limit your purchase to 3 plants so others share the fruits of our propagation team’s success. Normal carriage and packing charges apply.

Now a date for your spring 2027 diaries.
The Great Cornwall Garden Festival (1-5 April 2027) is an extraordinary, five-day celebration designed to put Cornish horticulture firmly on the global map. Marking a historic first, this ambitious initiative unites two much loved organisations in British gardening: the Cornwall Garden Society (CGS), whose iconic Spring Flower Show, a benchmark of regional excellence since 1897 sits at the heart of the festival, and the Great Gardens of Cornwall, a prestigious collection of 14 world-renowned gardens whose festival will radiate across the entire county with guided estate tours, head gardener masterclasses, and hands-on workshops. Under the inaugural theme, "Common Ground," the festival is a celebration for all of Cornwall, and a warm invitation is extended to gardens, nurseries and community green spaces across the county to join the programme.

If you have been thinking about a gardening holiday in Cornwall next spring this will hopefully encourage you to book your accommodation early. Over the next couple of months these emails will reveal the full programme of events and more details of the show itself. Burncoose will be offering Propagation workshops as part of the Festival. A new and unique gardening event for Cornwall.
