Commonly known as Matilija poppy




  • Deciduous - upright, suckering subshrub. Ovate to rounded, pinnatifid (with lobes) intensely glaucous, grey-green leaves to 12cm (5in) long, with 3-5 lance-shaped lobes. Produces solitary flowers to 12cm (5in) across, with prominent yellow stamens.

  • Height - 1-2.5m (3-8ft)
  • Spread - indefinite
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)

  • Additional Features - Good to know - produces flowers over a long period in summer. Recommended for the back of a border
  • Pests & Diseases - caterpillars, verticillium wilt.
