Commonly known as Ozark sundrops
Genus of about 145 species of annuals, biennials and perennials, some with tap roots or fibrous roots and a few with rhizomes or runners.
They are found mainly in North America with a few from South America, in well-drained, sunny sites, such as mountain slopes although some are from deserts.

HerbaceousVigorous perennial with trailing, red-tinged stems. Lance-shaped to oval, toothed mid-green leaves 2-8cm (¾ in to 3in) long with white midribs. Produces a long succession of solitary flowers to 12cm (5in) across.
