This is always a very busy and rather complicated time of year on the nursery.

At this moment we are finishing off deciduous cuttings; preparing benches for this year’s Camellia cuttings; and working our way through the Azalea and Rhododendron lists.

A. Selecting material for Azalea cuttings.

Preparing Rhododendrons – including trimming and dipping them in fungicide.

Some types of Rhododendrons can be propagated over a long period of time, but others have a narrow window of opportunity.

Of the varieties that we propagate ourselves the majority are done from June to early August and as heel cuttings.

C. Making Azalea cuttings.

D. Finishing softwoods – Senna corymbosa.

E. Weeding and trimming last year’s Rhododendron cuttings, now ready to be potted on.
