    Genus of about 70 species of trees and shrubs, occurring in moist forest in southeastern Asia, with one species in southeastern USA.

    Varieties
    GORDONIA axillaris
    (Polyspora axillaris) - tenderish except in milder counties. This dense growing shrub with dark green leaves produces large saucer-shaped white flowers which could be mistaken for a camellia
