6th January 2021. In line with the current government lockdown rules, Burncoose Nurseries is closed to visitors. However at present we are able to offer click and collect to local customers. This will be weekdays only, not weekends.
Mail order is continuing as normal. However please allow extra time for the couriers to deliver, once despatched from us. Sorry to say that some depots are experiencing high volumes of traffic, also staff shortages.

Deciduous - oblong-elliptic mid-green leaves to 10cm (4in) long are sparsely hairy, tapered at the base and characteristically tapered at the tip

Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - rounded shrub of cascading nature when mature with reddish purple young shoots and light-brown, flaking older bark. Flowers are carried on inflorescences 15-30cm (6-12in) long when fully expanded. Mint-like, whiskery flowers appear from densely downy grey-white bracts.

Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F) - borderline. Winter-damaged stems can be pruned back to the base.

Pruning: Trim off old flowers to the first bud beneath flower head. Cut back 1/3 of the oldest stems to promote replacement growth.
