      Pyramidal to columnar tree, loosely branched when young, denser when mature. Produces a succession of 5-petalled, hibiscus-like, cup- to trumpet-shaped flowers 4-6cm (1½-2½in) across from the upper leaf axils, mainly in summer, followed by ovoid seed capsules 2.5cm (1in) long if more than one plant is present

      Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
      Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
      When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
