  • Evergreen - prickle-tipped leaves 1-4cm (½-1½in) long, narrowly elliptic or lance-shaped with margins rolled under.
  • Red - crimson
  • Height - 50cm-3m (20in-10ft)
  • Spread - 1-5m (3-16ft)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - many-branched shrub with spreading, sometimes arching stems. Flowers in spider-like racemes 4-7cm (1½-3in) long.
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
