Commonly known as Hemlock
Genus of 9 species of evergreen, monoecious, coniferous trees found in forest from the Himalayas to northern Burma, western Vietnam, China, Taiwan and Japan and in North America.
Although referred to as hemlocks these trees are not poisonous.
In nature the eastern hemlock and the Carolina hemlock are in serious danger from an aphid-like pest introduced from eastern Asia where it is a minor pest.

Full sun - or partial shade - provide shelter from cold winds

Place of origin - Himalayas to Northern Burma and Western Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Japan and North America
Soil Conditions - Acid / ericaceous loving - - to slightly alkaline soil
Fertile moist well-drained soil - humus rich
